The Dyson "cyclone" type vacs, at $500-$600, and their many immitators are the hot thing. Dont be fooled though, the super fine household dust that any vac sucks up must be filterered-out somehow and somewhere in the machine, and that cyclone cone you see with its large perforations will not do that job since it can only stop the larger particles; so there's another fine filter needed in the Dyson, and that must be removed and washed out regularly.This Panasonic is about $110. It's simple, well made, very quiet, and the suction power is shockingly strong. It uses a bag that captures all the dust directly from the floor, and there are now even HEPA bags you can get that capture dust down to about a micron size. I found it works great on my hard floors too. The bag never clogs, but when its about 2/3 full you just remove it and throw it away and put in another bag which takes about 3 minutes. The bags are cheap enough; basic but workable bags cost about $1 apeice and last a long time.

Purchased this locally in Battle Creek because the owner of the Sweeper Depot offered to match any Internet Pricing. I own The Victorian Villa Inn in Union City - an historic bed & breakfast inn - since 1982. Purchased two of these babies in January 2008 and my housekeepers were so delighted with them that I ordered two more in March 2008.
